Us Ambassador Summoned For Postings Supporting Homosexuality In Kuwait

04 June 2022 Kuwait

As a result of the posts supporting LGBT rights, Kuwait's foreign ministry summoned US Charge d'Affaires Jim Holtsnider under summons.

In a memorandum, Nawaf Abdulatif Al Ahmad, acting assistant foreign minister, had confirmed Kuwait's rejection of the posting.

In accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, Kuwait has emphasized the need for the embassy to respect the laws and regulations in force in the country and commit not to publish such tweets.

US Embassy posts two tweets symbolising LGBTQI community, one in Arabic, one in English, containing the following quote attributed to Joe Biden: "All people should be respected and treated with dignity, whether they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or anyone else."

Kuwaitis were angered by the tweets and called for the Foreign Ministry to take action.

It is imperative that the Foreign Ministry play its role as a part of the solution by taking steps against the US embassy's defiance of international charters, Hamad Al Matar, a Kuwaiti legislator, said. "The US embassy is violating international charters by trying to impose abnormal behavior on Kuwait," Al Matar stated.

Islam strictly forbids homosexuality.
