The New Eurofighter Typhoon Jets Boost Kuwait's Combat Readiness

25 October 2023 Kuwait

Four Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 3 aircraft were received by the Kuwaiti Air Force, bringing the total to 13 out of 28 aircraft. Delivery of the aircraft began in December 2021 as part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance combat readiness. As one of the latest multi-role fighters, the Eurofighter Typhoon is distinguished by its electronic warfare capabilities and high-speed response. The aircraft received have exceeded 400 flight hours so far. There were a number of Kuwaiti Air Force officers present at the aircraft reception ceremony.

The Eurofighter Typhoon is equipped with a Mauser BK27mm gun and can be mounted with a variety of missiles depending on the mission. The Typhoon aircraft sent to Kuwait have been fitted with an active electronically scanned array radar, increasing their capability.

In addition to Eurofighter Kuwait, the Italian Air Force and Kuwait Air Force have a deeper and broader collaboration that covers operations, pilot training, and support. A KC-767A tanker aircraft will provide air-to-air refueling in the Gulf nation, and the Italian Air Force will train pilots, engineers, and technicians to support the Typhoon fleet.

In addition to having a "supercruise" capability that enables high-speed flight at sustained speeds of over Mach 1 (1,234 kilometers/767 miles per hour), the Eurofighter Typhoon is described as the world's most advanced swing-role combat aircraft.

Note that the Kuwaiti Air Force has other aircraft in its arsenal besides the Eurofighter Typhoon. Other aircraft operated by the Air Force include the F/A-18 Hornet and the Mirage F1.
