The Ministry Of Public Works Will Expand Water Treatment Plants
The Ministry of Public Works will expand Sulaibiya and Umm Al-Haiman water treatment plants which will add 670,000 cubic meters of treated water per day once completed, informed sources told the daily.
Sources affirmed the ministry is keen on boosting economic efficiency for the project that is under implementation and to activate positive partnership with the private sector to fully benefit from the water treatment plants in order to increase production to meet the ever-growing demand.
The ministry will achieve this by implementing projects through Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) and Public and Private Sector Partnership (PPP) systems in cooperation with Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP), sources explained. Sources said there are several vital and strategic projects that contribute to ongoing efforts to fully benefit from treated water such as Sulaibiya Wastewater Treatment Plant – the biggest in the Middle East.
The plant was established through the BOT system while its operations commenced in 2002 and will continue for a period of 30 years, sources revealed. Sources explained the plant receives sewage water from the central area networks and then collected and pumped from Mishref, Riggae and Ardiya pump stations. Sources added the current production is 350,000 cubic meters of treated water pumped daily to Wafra, Abdally and Sulaibiya agricultural areas.
Meanwhile, a PPP investment contract to expand Umm Al- Haiman Water Treatment Plant and all related works will be signed soon. Procedures for awarding the project before signing the contract are underway, in partnership with KAPP. This will include collection and pumping of sewage water from South Kuwait in Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Ahmadi and Sabah Al- Ahmad, sources added.
The committee assigned to study the tender of the North Zour Station Project (second stage) will finish examining the technical offers presented by the competing companies by beginning of next week, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources from Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects. Revealing that the total cost of the project is $2 billion, the sources affirmed that envelopes with the bids will be opened and studied, and then the winning company will be announced.
They indicated that the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects cancelled the tender of Abdali Station Project for generation of electricity via solar energy based on a recommendation from the Fatwa and Legislation Department, adding that the tender will be floated later based on Law 39/2010 instead of Law 116/2014. The sources said the tender for the Al-Khairan Power Station Project (first stage) will be floated after the winning company of the tender for Al-Zour Power Station Project is announced.
