Shrimp Fishing Season Ends Next Saturday

The Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries announced the end of the shrimp fishing season, starting from Saturday, January 1, 2022.

The decision, a copy of which has been obtained by Al-Rai, referred to the prohibition of shrimp fishing in international waters. The decision stressed on the prohibition of catching, selling or trading in shrimp in the local market during the ban period. The ban includes unlicensed fishing vessels, pleasure boats, and small boats that are used for fishing, and called on everyone to abide by the law.

The head of the Fishermen’s Union, Daher Al-Suwayan, said the fishing sector is still suffering from a shortage of labor due to the manpower system, which has caused the suspension of many fishing licenses and the great shortage of fishermen in this sector, explaining that the fishing sector is exempted from obtaining all permits from abroad.
