Salmiya Supermarkets Shut Down For Selling Spoiled Meat
Commercial Control Department inspectors within the Ministry of Commerce and Industry have taken action to address the issue of spoiled food in various consumer distribution markets. In the Salmiya area, four supermarkets have been closed for selling spoiled and adulterated meat, which violates consumer protection regulations.
During routine inspections of supermarkets, the Ministry's inspectors discovered a common violation in four markets frequented by customers. In the meat section, the violators were found thawing frozen meat, presenting it as chilled meat, and selling it to unsuspecting consumers. A review of official invoices revealed that the frozen meat was of a different origin, even including frozen liver. By selling unfit products, market officials are intentionally deceiving and endangering consumers.
Additionally, the sources indicated that legal procedures are underway, with the intention of referring the violators to the prosecution.
The sources offered reassurance regarding the increasing number of seizures of adulterated foods in various markets in recent years. A significant number of seizures carried out by the Commercial Control Authority underlines the vigilance and commitment of the Ministry of Commerce's supervisory system, they said. Violators are restraining and preventing recurrence of such violations through their efforts.
