'royal' Declared Innocent By Court
An in absentia ruling imprisoning a ruling family member for five years with hard labor was overturned by the Court of Appeals. The court instead ruled his innocence in charges of beating one of his employees and causing harm to her due to the maliciousness of her allegations and her bargaining with him over an amount of KD 60,000.
According to the Public Prosecution, the accused intentionally caused the victim the injuries described in the forensic report, which resulted in severe physical pain. He also was accused of sending a written threat to the victim to inflict harm on her if she did not withdraw her complaint.
In addition, he was charged with intentionally misusing the telephone communication service. Representing the defendant was Lawyer Sultan Al-Shammali, who highlighted the lax reporting by the victim, the maliciousness of her allegations, the lack of reasoning in conceiving the occurrence of the incident as shown in the documents, and the contradiction of the verbal evidence of the victim, the technical evidence and the fabrication of the technical evidence.
According to lawyer Al-Shammali, there is no anecdotal or technical evidence for the crime of public insult, except for the statements of the victim. According to him, the detectives' investigation of the case was not serious.
