Relocate Embassies, Consulates Away From Residential Areas
MP Yousef Al-Fadala proposed relocation of all embassies and consulates away from residential areas and provide locations which are more suitable for diplomatic work.
He clarified that consulates and embassies in residential areas, especially those belonging to a large community, cause traffic congestion during working hours – an inconvenience for residents.
MP Shu’aib Al-Muwaizri failed to attend the parliamentary Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the interpellation motion he submitted against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Committee Rapporteur MP Khaleel Abdullah revealed the panel sent three invitations to Al- Muwaizri to discuss his interpellation motion, which was referred to the committee to evaluate its constitutionality and to consider his inputs.
The committee sent an invitation to the lawmaker’s house, another to his office and one through text message, but Al-Muwaizri failed to attend the meeting. The committee decided to send another set of invitations to the MP to attend its meeting on Monday.
In the meantime, the committee will meet a number of constitutional and legal experts including Minister of Justice Fahad Al-Afasi to obtain their opinions and finalize the report before the National Assembly session slated for Dec 11.
Furthermore, motivated by constituents, MP Askar Al-Enizi submitted a proposal to amend Article 39 of law number 32/1967 regarding military affairs to allow officers who retired, resigned or relieved from duty to reenlist. In his explanatory note, the MP pointed out that many former military personnel left the service due to health or personal reasons.
In certain situations, these reasons become irrelevant in the future so they can return to the military. Therefore, the MP proposed allowing officers who retired, resigned or relieved from duty to re-enlist with the same rank and salary, provided not more than eight years have passed since they left their post and they should prove they are still in good shape and sound mind to serve.
