05 November 2023 Kuwait

105 new Kuwaiti prosecutors appointed, marking a record number in a country that seeks to create employment for its citizens.

According to Kuwait's Attorney General Saad Al Safran, the country's prosecution has accepted the most Kuwaiti applicants in its history.

According to him, this is in response to directives to Kuwaitise the judiciary following a definite methodology and clear plans.

According to Al Safran, the successful applicants include 16 women and they all will receive training at the Kuwait Institute for Judicial Studies before starting to do the job.

An employment policy known in Kuwait as "Kuwaitisation" was announced in July last year by Kuwait's High Council of Judiciary that would replace foreign staff with citizens in four years at most.

The council has been promoting the appointment of Kuwaiti law school graduates as prosecutors in recent years.

Nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait's 4.6 million residents are foreigners.

Kuwait has increased its efforts in recent years to create jobs for its citizens and replace foreign employees.

Kuwait has recently been calling for curbs on foreign employment as well as accusing migrant workers of straining the country's infrastructure facilities as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
