Pepper Spray, Stun Guns For Cops
As part of the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Interior to stop attacks on securitymen by outlaws and drug pushers and addicts, a high-ranking security source said the ministry will provide field patrols with ‘pepper sprays’ and ‘stun guns’ so as not to expose them to legal accountability if they use their service revolver, reports Al-Anba daily. The security source said, senior officials at the Ministry of Interior during meetings discussed the best ways to limit attacks on securitymen and there was unanimous agreement to introduce hot pepper spray and stun guns to overpower those who resist arrests.
In this regard a contract will be signed with specialized companies to provide these weapons that conform to international standards, which have temporary unsustainable impact without symptoms or causing any significant harm. The source confirmed the Ministry of Interior is in the process of organizing training courses for securitymen in the use of these new tools which will be supplied to the police patrols ‘soon’ when they become available in addition to service revolvers. The source pointed out the expanded use of firearms is undesirable and the last option for securitymen is to use pepper spray and stun guns.
