14 February 2017 Crime News

The Constitutional Court on Monday adjourned cross-examination into contestations of the 2016 parliamentary elections in the five constituencies till February 20th due to ongoing proceedings. The court had delayed examining the challenges until today in response to a request by attendees. It held the first hearing to examine challenges against voting in the first, second and third districts on December 25th and delayed the proceedings till today to give time for judges to re-examine tallies. It had decided to reopen the ballot boxes of the committees (one and 29) in the second constituency and those of the commissions (15 and 19) in the third. The tribunal had also examined challenges in the fourth constituency on December 26 and delayed the sessions to provide time for counsellors to examine minutes of the electoral committees in the district. The tribunal had also delayed examining the challenges in the fifth district on Dec 27 for identical reasons. The parliamentary elections were held on November 26th. Up to 50 figures were elected representing the five constituencies, at a rate of 10 per each.
