Optimism Seen In Radical Solution To ‘bedoun’ Problem - Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-ghanim

Those who follow up the issue of the illegal residents of Kuwait of the so-called Bedoun say they are optimistic that a decisive and radical solution will be reached according to the supreme directives given by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed and announced by Speaker of Parliament Marzouq Al-Ghanim and discussed by the Council of Ministers at its last meeting, reports Al-Rai daily.

The sources pointed out there is a marked decline in the number of bedoun who before the invasion of the country by Iraq stood at about 220 thousand and now the number is only 83 thousand – people who are registered and hold cards issued by the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR), while the number of those who do not hold such cards reportedly do not exceed 5,000.

The sources pointed out that children to Kuwaiti mothers are up to 12 thousand cases, in addition to 3 thousand cases of grandchildren, and about 3 thousand wives of Kuwaitis, which constitutes about 18 thousand cases out of the total 83 thousand.

Speaking about those who were registered during the 1965 census carried out in Kuwait the sources pointed out this does not necessarily mean those registered are entitled for naturalization, but it means they meet one condition to be considered for naturalization.

The sources pointed out that during the 1965 census according to the latest estimates of 35 thousand people were registered, but a significant part of them belong to the ‘18 thousand people’ group – the sons and grandsons of wives of Kuwaitis.
