‘no Pact Inked With World Bank’

Minister of Electricity and Water, Minister of Social Affairs and Community Development, Dr. Misha’an Al-Otaibi, said there is no contract between the Ministry of Electricity and the World Bank concerning the study on developing solar energy in Kuwait, but the World Bank is preparing a set of studies within the framework of an agreement with the Ministry of Finance according to the need of government agencies and cost of the studies is paid for by the concerned government agencies.

This came in response to a parliamentary question presented by MP Dr. Hamad Al-Matar. Dr Al-Otaibi explained that this study has been used in drafting the ministry’s plan towards implementing renewable energy projects in Kuwait, and these projects are the solar panels project on the roofs of the main building of the Ministry of Electricity and Water and the main building of the Ministry of Public Works, as well as the project for the electric power production plant from renewable natural sources at the Dibdaba site, in addition to a project for the electric power production plant from renewable natural sources at the Al-Abraq site.

He added, in addition to that, the ministry cooperates with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) in the area of energy produced by the Shaqaya project and link it to the public electrical network, and it is expected that the installed electrical capacity produced by these projects after completion will be approximately four thousand megawatts – By Muhammad Ghanem Al-Seyassah Staff
