29 November 2017 Kuwait

The National Assembly will not take any action regarding the MPs convicted of storming the legislative building until the Court of Cassation issues its ruling, says Speaker Marzouq Al- Ghanim.

On the parliamentary immunity, Al-Ghanim explained the immunity must be lifted before the indictment, while there is no immunity after the issuance of judicial ruling. He further clarified that amnesty is sought, not imposed; adding that he does not comment on judicial rulings in accordance with Article 50 of the Constitution.

Talking about the government formation and calls for the Assembly to hold sessions, Al-Ghanim pointed out he followed the procedures and there is no specific period for the announcement on forming the government. He said the Assembly cannot hold sessions without the government, hoping for the appointment of good ministers and that it will not take a long time to announce formation of the government.
