Mp To Grill Minister On Housing Issue – ‘ridiculous Procedures’
MP Omar Al-Tabtabaei will grill Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Housing Affairs Jenaan Boshehri on Tuesday about the housing issue and what he described as “ridiculous procedures” aimed at pacifying citizens.
He disclosed the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) is distributing a piece of paper to housing applicants stating that they have been allocated a house but they still have to wait for two to three years for completion of infrastructure and another unknown number of years to receive a building permit.
He asserted this cannot be called progress as it is merely a piece of paper that comes with a long waiting period. He argued that real progress comes once the ministry starts handing out keys to houses of citizens. He added this long waiting period overwhelms new Kuwaiti families, as citizens who pay monthly rent of around KD 700 are struggling to make ends meet.
Furthermore, MP Faisal Al-Kandari stated this legislative round is the same as the last; it will witness the passage of a number of important bills, on top of which is the amendment of the Retirement Law.
Therefore, the MP called on all parliamentary committees to pick up the pace and expedite discussion of bills in their agendas in order to deliver the best possible outcome to the Kuwaiti public before the Assembly’s term ends, stressing that only the public can judge the performance of the Assembly.
In another development, MP Nasser Al-Douseri has unveiled his plan to submit a proposal to establish a Kuwaiti educational institution to train Kuwaiti employees for high management positions in the government.
He said the State should adopt such a directive similar to what France did in 1945, noting that it has been proven to be a success as it produced capable government officials who led their country to where it is now. The MP added this institution will ensure that any graduating student will be more than capable to occupy sensitive positions throughout the government’s structure; thereby, raising the standard of work in the public sector which will lead to the improvement of State utilities and services.
