Mp Mulls Another Motion To Grill Premier
MP Abdulkareem Al- Kandari disclosed that his interpellation against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak was supposed to be discussed behind closed doors or lifted from the National Assembly’s agenda to protect the positions of MPs, indicating he will submit another motion to grill the prime minister and observe which interpellations will be avoided.
He submitted the interpellation against the prime minister in the last legislative round; and as per the request of the government, it was referred to the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee for constitutional revision. The committee recently declared the interpellation unconstitutional and it is pending for deliberation.
Meanwhile, MP Riyad Al-Adsani called on Minister of Defense Sheikh Nasser Al-Sabah to address all the issues he raised recently especially the Euro Fighter case; or else, a political confrontation is inevitable.
On his interpellation against Minister of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah which will be addressed on Tuesday, the MP stressed the need for the minister to face the interpellation transparently and refrain from closing the doors to the public as the people deserve to know the level of negligence under his leadership.
Furthermore, the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee approved the proposed amendments to the Firefighting Law including the proposal to grant full retirement package to firefighters injured while on duty. This is in addition to the proposal to grant a special retirement package to firefighters who have been in service for 25 years.
It stipulates that firefighters will receive the same special retirement package given to servicemen at the Ministry of Interior — additional KD 400 for retired first lieutenants and lieutenants, and KD 300 for lower ranks.
On the other hand, headed by Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, the National Assembly Office convened a meeting to approve the assembly’s agenda and discuss the confidentiality of some responses to parliamentary queries.
The Assembly’s treasurer revealed these queries were referred to the office to determine if confidentiality of responses is necessary or not. He explained that although confidentiality of responses is the right of the government, it is applied only to sensitive information.
