Mp Mohammad Al-dalal Criticized The Anti-corruption Law

MP Mohammad Al-Dalal criticized the anti-corruption law, lamenting that, “The government came up with a law to put the anti-corruption authority in its pocket because of the feebleness of the law”, reports Al-Rai daily.

During a press conference held few days ago, he said, “The people of Kuwait are following what is transpiring in the Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority. Appointments in the authority should be based on constitutional and technical framework”. MP Al-Dalal stressed that there is a problem in the board of trustees which needs to be dealt with immediately by changing the board, adding, “This forced us to present amendments to the anti-corruption law and add a ‘Conflict of Interest’ section”.

He insisted that the government is responsible for hampering the anti-corruption progress and that the current law lacks articles that deal with crimes similar to the multi-million deposit case, adding that the government unfortunately was the one that came up with the law and made it feeble in a bid to tame its effects. MP Al-Dalal indicated that, “Kuwait’s current rank in the international report of fight against corruption is low and the new report is bound to rank Kuwait much lower. This is due to issues such as the fact that an overseas medical treatment bill comes up to more than KD 600”.

Meanwhile, he questioned the State Minister for Housing Affairs and Services Yasser Abul regarding the issue of employment in Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC). He wanted to know the current number of Kuwaiti and expatriate employees in the company, especially after the endorsement of law No. 6/2008 concerning the percentage of national manpower in the company. MP Al-Dalal also asked about the legal basis behind the decision taken by the company to cancel travelling permits for retirees as well as the plan of KAC for development and upgrade, and the contribution of the retirees and experts in this aspect.

Meanwhile, Head of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee MP Ali Al-Deqbasi said the committee has extended invitation to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and a senior ministry official to attend the parliamentary meeting, which is scheduled to discuss the regional situation and government’s plan in that concern, reports Al-Anba daily. Al-Deqbasi added the Parliament needs to be notified about procedures adopted by the government in order to get a clear picture of the situation. He added the Parliament has not met with the government ever since the elections’ results were announced. He disclosed the committee’s intention to support the government in sustaining national security while serving the interests of the citizens.
