More Than 21,000 Traffic Violations In Week; 130 Cars Impounded
In alignment with the directives of Assistant Undersecretary for Operations and Traffic Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Yousef Al-Khadda, the Traffic Sector executed a comprehensive weeklong campaign resulting in significant enforcement actions. According to reports from Al-Jarida daily, the campaign yielded the issuance of 21,858 citations for various violations, the impounding of 130 vehicles, and the arrest of 48 individuals for reckless driving and other offenses. Additionally, 23 juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution, and 12 persons wanted for involvement in security and criminal cases were apprehended. Furthermore, six individuals were arrested for possession and consumption of narcotic substances.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan, Officer in the Public Relations and Traffic Awareness Unit at the General Traffic Department (GTD), disclosed that the Traffic Sector had previously devised an integrated traffic and security plan covering all major roads, highways, and external routes to ensure smooth traffic flow during the final week of Ramadan. However, certain areas experienced significant traffic congestion, particularly near mosques, worship places, commercial complexes, and public markets. Continuous field monitoring revealed an increase in reckless driving behavior, including instances of juveniles driving without licenses prior to iftar.
The plan was executed through coordinated efforts among traffic departments in the six governorates, Traffic Operations Department, Special Traffic Tasks Department, and Traffic Investigation Department. Traffic and rescue patrols ensured security and traffic control in front of religious sites, commercial areas, and residential zones. In addition to citations and vehicle impoundments, arrests were made for serious traffic violations such as reckless driving, speeding, and intentional obstruction of traffic.
Those arrested were transported to detention centers of the General Traffic Department. Notably, individuals wanted for criminal activities were referred to the Sentences Enforcement General Department, while those apprehended for drug-related offenses were handed over to the Drug Control General Department.
