11 September 2022 Kuwait

A total of 27 Kuwaitis belonging to the Shammar tribe surrendered to the police on Saturday evening. For organizing primaries to elect members of the tribe to represent them in the 2029 National Assembly elections, they were on the police wanted list and sentenced in absentia to two years in prison.

Several of them had just returned from Saudi Arabia and Jordan via Kuwait's international airport, and others were hiding inside the country. Those who entered from abroad were arrested upon arrival and referred to the competent authorities.

According to sources, the Court of Cassation will hold a special session early next week, during which the convicts will seek an annulment of their convictions.
