Kuwait's Nazaha Receives 910 Corruption Reports In Two Fiscal Years

17 February 2024 Kuwait

The Public Anti-Corruption Authority, known as "Nazaha," has disclosed that it received a total of 910 reports of corruption crimes over the span of two fiscal years, covering from 2021/2022 to 2022/2023. Among these reports, 82 cases have been forwarded to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and legal action.

This disclosure comes following a memorandum from the Minister of Justice and Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Faisal Al-Gharib, prompted by a query submitted earlier by MP Fahd Al-Masoud regarding corruption complaints handled by Nazaha during the specified period, as reported by Al-Jarida daily.

Nazaha outlined its meticulous procedures for handling received reports, which entail verification of formal and substantive conditions for report acceptance, followed by registration and commencement of investigative procedures. These steps include initial inquiries, witness summoning, gathering relevant information, and inference gathering regarding alleged corruption incidents.

In instances where corruption allegations cannot be substantiated but administrative violations persist, Nazaha promptly notifies relevant authorities for administrative investigations and corrective actions to forestall future breaches.

Regarding reports leading to suspicions of corruption crimes, Nazaha confirmed that 82 cases were referred to the Public Prosecution for further examination, in line with Article No. 22 of the law establishing the Authority.

Furthermore, Nazaha highlighted its proactive efforts in conducting awareness programs, totaling 240 sessions, aimed at bolstering integrity, combatting corruption, and acquainting stakeholders with the breadth of Nazaha's mandate. These programs cover various topics such as money laundering, asset recovery, employee rehabilitation, and the elucidation of laws pertaining to information access rights and conflicts of interest.
