Kuwaiti Fashionista Gets 3 Years In Jail For Fatal Road Accident
According to Kuwaiti media, a Kuwaiti court sentenced a celebrated fashionista to three years in prison for causing two deaths in a traffic accident.
Moreover, the misdemeanour court revoked the defendant's driving license for one year. It is possible to appeal the verdict.
According to Kuwaiti news portal Almajilis, the defendant is online celebrity Fatma Al Moamen who was charged with manslaughter, speeding, and driving past a red light.
A Kuwaiti beauty expert and fashion model, Al Moamen is 30 years old.
In Kuwait's capital, two people died and two others were injured after a traffic accident last August. Following the crash, the suspect was arrested.
It was reported at the time that the fashionista, whose name was not released, was in an "abnormal" condition when the accident occurred.
According to reports, she rammed into another car carrying four people while driving at high speed.
Her accident sparked an outcry on social media, with some commentators calling for harsh penalties.
According to media reports, Kuwait, a country of 4.6 million people, registered 335 traffic deaths last year.
Kuwait has tightened its traffic enforcement measures in recent months. According to a traffic official, more than 18,000 expatriates were deported from Kuwait earlier this year due to a variety of violations, including traffic violations.
