Kuwait Will Not Compromise On Its Commitment To Protecting Donor Funds Or Its Humanitarian Reputation

Ahmed Al-Enezi, the Ministry of Social Affairs' Director of Public Relations and Information, has asked the Public Communications Authority to restrict websites that promote the illegal collecting of money for charity initiatives from outside Kuwait.

According to a local Arab newspaper, Al-Enezi revealed that the ministry took this measure after noticing a slew of advertisements on social networking sites asking for donations for charitable initiatives from outside Kuwait, whether by businesses or individuals not allowed to collect those funds.

The last of these advertisements, according to Al-Enezi, was a call on various social media sites for donations to establish an Islamic center in one of the countries, which is considered in violation of the law regulating the licensing of collecting money for public purposes for the year 1959, which prohibits individuals or groups from collecting donations from the public by any means for the purpose of spending them on charity, public benefit, or assistance to the afflicted in Kuwait.

Al-Enezi emphasized that the ministry is closely monitoring all advertisements and invitations for collecting donations through teams affiliated with the Department of Charitable Societies and Charitable Associations, and will take all legal measures against any party that does not comply with the laws and regulations.

Al-Enezi emphasized that the Ministry of Social Affairs will not make any compromises in protecting the donors' finances and maintaining Kuwait's status as a leader in humanitarian and charitable activities.
