Kuwait National Assembly Approves Amendments To Agricultural, Bankruptcy Bills

The National Assembly approved, in its regular session Tuesday, amendments to draft laws related to agriculture and bankruptcy. The first amendment – approved by 39, opposed by four with two abstained of the 45 MPs present – focused on membership term of Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resource’s board of directors, the fair distribution of agricultural and animal resources as well as production, in addition to penalties and fines of no more than KD 10,000 (USD 33,000) imposed by PAAF on violators of laws connected with licenses and exploitation of resources. The second draft of the day was linked to amendment to laws concerning bankruptcy. Thirty-five voted in favor of the draft law seven voted against it. There were 42 MPs present at the session.

The draft law aims at reshuffling and reorganizing laws connected with bankruptcy. The Council also approved the amendments to the bankruptcy law, which had already been voted on in its first deliberation.

After the law was approved, The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Khaled Al-Roudan said: “The bankruptcy law will contribute to strengthening the national economy, and amendments to it will lead to a more prudent law. We thank the members of the two authorities for approving it.”

The National Assembly will also discuss the legislative report, The Finance report, The “Resource Development” report on the demographics and a report on amending a law on the rights of persons with disabilities.
