Kuwait Imposes A Midday Outdoor Work Ban
The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) announced the ban on outdoor labor work from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm from Saturday, June 1 until the end of August, under the slogan “Their safety is more important.” Acting Director General of PAM Marzouq Al-Otaibi affirmed that PAM’s inspection teams will follow up the implementation of the decision throughout a period of three months and will carry out surprise inspection campaigns on work sites to monitor and record any violations and take legal measures against violators. He explained that the decision aims to protect workers from extreme heat during that period. Working outdoors under the sun during this time of the year is arduous due to the harsh climatic conditions.
The ban aims to regulate work and not reduce working hours in order to avoid any harm to ongoing projects. Meanwhile, Al-Anba daily reported that PAM announced the implementation of Decision No. 535/2015 to ban labor work under direct sun from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm from the beginning of June 2024 until August 31. He affirmed that the implementation of the decision over the recent years was positively received by the concerned companies and contractors, indicating that this decision is part of the commitment of Kuwait to the international work criteria. Al-Otaibi stated that the decision is aimed at protecting laborers from the dangers of working directly under the sun during hot weather. The decision does not reduce working hours, but it only reorganizes them in order to avoid any troubles or delays in the completion of ongoing projects.
