Kuwait Implements Noon Work Ban From June 1
The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) announced the enforcement of Administrative Resolution No. 535 of 2015, which bans outdoor work during peak afternoon hours from 11 AM to 4 PM, starting June 1 and continuing until the end of August. This initiative, tagged “Their Safety is More Important,” aims to protect workers from the severe summer heat.
Marzouq Al-Otaibi, Acting Director General of PAM, stated that inspection teams will conduct surprise visits to work sites over the next three months to ensure compliance. Violations will be monitored, and recorded, and legal actions will be taken against those who disregard the ban.
Al-Otaibi emphasized that the decision is crucial for safeguarding workers from extreme weather conditions, which make it challenging to perform outdoor tasks during normal working hours. He clarified that the ban is not intended to reduce work hours but to reorganize them to avoid the harshest part of the day, ensuring the continuation of projects without harm.
He noted that many companies across various sectors well-received previous years’ implementation of this ban. The decision aligns with Kuwait’s commitment to international labor standards, reflecting concern for public interest and worker welfare.
Al-Otaibi underscored that the resolution underscores employers’ responsibilities to protect their workers’ health and safety, ensuring adherence to labor laws and regulations.
Violations of the noon work ban can be reported via phone at 24936192. The competent authority will respond to complaints and take necessary actions.
This initiative highlights Kuwait’s proactive approach to labor safety and commitment to maintaining high standards of worker protection during the summer months.
