Kuwait Enjoys An Anti-corruption Triumph As Financial Disclosures Rise To 99.6%

07 December 2023 Kuwait

Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim, head of the Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), announced on Thursday that 99.6 percent of individuals covered by its financial disclosure regulations had submitted their documents. A notable compliance rate indicates the nation's commitment to enhancing anti-corruption measures, resulting in commendable global rankings.

Nazaha's Al-Ibrahim highlighted the agency's efforts to implement and refine laws vital to Kuwait's robust anti-corruption framework during the agency's third forum on December 9. The enactment of new laws, specifically those that address conflicts of interest and amend legislative election laws, facilitated transparency and combated corruption, he stressed.

Al-Ibrahim announced Kuwait's improved position in international rankings, earning an additional point on the Corruption Perceptions Index. Kuwait earned another point by securing the second position within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by the World Justice Project (WJP). Kuwait also ascended eight ranks in the International Institute for Management (IMD), a significant achievement for its inaugural year.

International organizations, government institutions, private sector entities, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) participated actively in the third forum. In bolstering Kuwait's global position in anti-corruption initiatives, the collective engagement underscored Kuwait's commitment to fighting corruption across sectors.
