Kpc Signs Mou With The Un Human Settlements Program

The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and the United Nations Human Settlements Program ‘Habitat’ has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for cooperation through which the two sides will work together to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, and implement this cooperation within Kuwait, by focusing on environmental recovery, urban governance and capacity support, as well as on social integration and management of basic services, including basic activities related to the cities inside Kuwait.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the KPC by the Chief Executive Officer Hashem Sayed Hashem, and on behalf of the Habitat by the Arab Regional Director of the Human Settlements Program, Irfan Ali, in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.

The Al Rai daily has learned the MoU includes in its terms defining joint cooperation programs to implement specific projects aimed at making KPC a model for sustainable and resilient institutions, and working together to improve the environmental performance of KPC, its subsidiaries and the State of Kuwait, and to provide environmental and sustainability advice related to oil sector projects to achieve sustainable urban development goals, as well as cooperation for the implementation of new environmental projects in the oil sector, which leads to raising Kuwait’s reputation regionally and globally.

It also includes cooperation in preparing studies to ensure the implementation of the basic purposes of this memorandum, in a manner that leads to the complete prevention of desertification, enhance the environmental status of open areas in the State of Kuwait, and ensure environmental sustainability, and many associated activities, including combating encroachment, and promoting greenery and cultivation of fungal plants.

“Habitat” is the coordinating agency for human settlements activities within the United Nations system, and is responsible for promoting and consolidating cooperation with all partners, including local authorities, private and non-governmental organizations.
