Kd11 Million Dinar Fines Against Companies And Contractors
As part of efforts to uphold regulations, enforce accountability against negligent persons and protect public money, the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) has issued fines on companies and contractors in 2020 that reached about KD11 million dinars, holding them accountable for delays in implementing contracts, sources informed Al-Qabas daily. It is the largest fine of its kind in one year.
Responsible sources revealed that such an action followed repeated claims in the past years by the Audit Bureau that the Ministry should apply contractual fines for some contracts that experience delays, which cost public money and invite additional burdens while impeding Kuwait development.
The sources pointed out that the Minister of Electricity and Water Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel referred several directors in the ministry to the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Leadership Disciplinary Authority of the Civil Service Council, following the discovery of financial violations and irregularities that marred some contracts.
