Home Delivery Companies Facing Bankruptcy Due To Visa 20 Drivers

06 September 2021 Kuwait

The head of the Kuwait Union of Delivery Companies, Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri, said the union wants to regulate the delivery market, specifically when it comes to wages of ‘home delivery’ drivers, who earn between 160 and 200 dinars maximum, including the overtime hours they put in.

In a special statement to Al-Anba, Al-Tuwaijri said the home delivery market became chaotic after a number of drivers who hold Article 20 work permit signed direct contracts with restaurant and cafe owners and are said to earn about 450 dinars a month which affects the work of delivery companies as a result of which many of them have left work due to the discrepancy in salary.

He pointed a majority of these drivers are under the sponsorship of Kuwaitis but they don’t work for their sponsors. The new Corona virus pandemic changed this scenario.

Al-Tuwaijri said the relevant authorities must cooperate, including the Ministry of Interior and the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) to confront Visa 20 workers because they threaten the very existence of delivery companies.
