Gag On Parliament Records

25 November 2016 Kuwait

In a move considered strange and inconsistent with the principle of transparency and the public’s right to monitor the works of the parliament, the latter has decided to hide from the public all records of the parliamentary sessions and documents on the parliament’s website which were available until mid-October.

Sources attributed this move to the inclination of the parliamentary leadership to prevent people from examining the documents of the dissolved 2013 parliament and the reports of its committees after several candidates and activists expressed disappointment over the performance of 2013 parliament. They indicated that some candidates of the upcoming elections might use these documents to expose the actual positions of the Speaker and members of the 2013 parliament, which could in turn negatively affect their chances of success and their return to the next parliament.
