From Inside Prison, Four Detainees File For Elections
The Ministry of Interior has permitted four of the six people detained for allegedly arranging primaries in the second election constituency to run in the 2022 National Elections.
According to a local Arabic daily, the guys were imprisoned by the Public Prosecution but were allowed to file nomination paperwork from within the prison. The detainees' demands were met by the Ministry of Interior, as they were unable to register because they were being kept in prison pending trial.
According to a security source, an officer and an official from the electoral commission went to the prison and registered the four candidates in the presence of their lawyers. Their candidacy papers will be handed to the Application Examination Committee, which will review them and provide a final report to Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Defense and Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, they can run for office as long as no court has convicted them of crime.
