24 March 2022 Kuwait

Pardoned under the Amiri law were 200 inmates serving time in the Central Prison - 70 citizens and 130 residents - who had various reasons for serving time there.

According to a local Arabic daily, the Amiri pardon has also resulted in the reduction of jail terms of many prisoners, the dropping of fines, and the deportation of 395 prisoners who have been released from prison. Expats released from detention are temporarily transferred to the Deportation Center.

After receiving the pardon, the pardoned persons immediately expressed their joy at exiting prison walls with the slogan, 'crime does not pay,' emphasizing that their release is a new beginning in their lives.

In an expression of their joy with the royal generosity that returned their children to freedom and interspersed with tears and hugs, the families of the prisoners welcomed their children upon their release with great joy.

On the sidelines of the release of those covered by the amnesty, the Assistant Undersecretary for Correctional Institutions Affairs and Sentence Execution, Talal Ma'arafi, stressed Kuwait's committed to human rights and willingness to provide rehabilitation for those in correctional institutions.

Whenever possible, Ma'arafi emphasized, "Every year, the honor extends to the prisoners of correctional institutions, relieving them of tax burdens and fines that have burdened them."
