Four-month Camping Season In Kuwait Kicks Off On November 15
The four month camping season in Kuwait is kicking off on November 15 where the Kuwaiti desert, amid the moderate weather, would host camping fans and leisure seekers.
Kuwait Municipality is kicking off the season, promoting a new site for camping, the eastern bank of Kuwait Bay at the other end of Sheikh Jaber Bridge that stretches across the sea waters, linking up the bay two banks. Fahad Al-Qraifah, in charge of public cleanliness and road works at the municipality, told KUNA that the new camping location has been chosen for easy accessibility, noting that it is far away from military installations and high-tension cables.
Public services centers and security checkpoints will be erected close to camping sites, he said, reiterating that people cannot camp at locations that have not been chosen by the authorities.
Camping fans can register their names as of the 15th of this month via a special website, with a KD 50 (approx. USD 150 fee) fee and repayable sum of KD 300 (approx. USD 900).
A camper will be allowed to use a 1,000 square meter plot of land. Sheikh Jaber causeway is one of the latest national accomplishments, envisaged within Kuwait Vision 2035 development strategy.
It is designed to pave way for decentralization and establishing new residential districts. Many Kuwaitis have been looking forward to enjoy the camping season, as the weather has turned quite with the heat currently in the 30 degrees’ range.
Meanwhile, the tent market in Kuwait is witnessing a hectic activity as the traditional camping season is just around the corner set to begin in mid-January, reports Al-Rai daily.
The market is offering for sale of types of tents and the prices vary according to their sizes and materials and method of manufacture including tents which are new and second-hand. In the midst of all this as the Kuwaitis enjoy their life in the mainland with mild air and low temperatures the Kuwait Municipality is determined to keep at bay commercial camps which were rented to citizens and residents during earlier camping seasons.
The Municipality in the past imposed a fine of two dinars per square meter per day, if the tent is pitched outside the allotted area, considering it an encroachment on government land, in addition to another decision to ban the holding of concerts or fun parties in the camps. Persons found guilty will be punished according to the law.
Deputy Director General of Kuwait Municipality for Hawalli and Ahmadi Governorates, Chairman of the Spring Camps Committee, Eng. Fahad Al-Shatili told Al-Rai that some people had in the previous seasons rented their camps for business purposes (exhibitions, concerts, and as minigame cities, etc), at high prices, stressing that in such cases the Municipal teams in cooperation with the Environment Public Authority and the Ministry of Interior will remove the camp immediately and the owner will have to bear the cost of removal.
