Expat Teachers Will Receive Kd 78 Million As Indemnity

03 August 2022 Kuwait

End-of-service benefits for foreign teachers have been transferred by the Civil Service Commission to the relevant Ministry of Education departments, for which 78 million dinars have been set aside for the fiscal year 2021–2022. "The approved budget is an estimate due to the number of projected resignations, the lists of those covered by compulsory retirement, and the annual replacement, and that it is subject to grow if necessary," a source from the educational system informed the daily.

The source said that although the CSC has not yet calculated the number of suspended positions in the Ministry of Education for the new fiscal year, it is unlikely that these positions will be in the field of education given that the proportion of Kuwaiti teachers to foreign teachers currently ranges from 72.5% to 27.5%. (63,955 male and female teachers are citizens and 24,393 non-citizens, with a total of 88,348).

According to Aljarida daily, in preparation for the upcoming school year 2022–2023, the concerned officials in the Ministry of Education are working to finish the processes for assigning educational cadres based on the specialties necessary to satisfy the demands of schools. The Ministry of Education has reportedly officially disclosed the specialties it required for domestic and international contracts. There are currently 84,125 instructors from different disciplines employed locally and abroad in public schools.

Statistics

The Ministry of Education's most recent figures indicate that there are 7,170 kindergarten instructors. There are 2,228 male teachers and 30,377 female teachers working in primary schools. In intermediate schools, there are 15,592 female teachers compared to 10,749 male instructors. 10,739 instructors work in secondary schools, including 7,273 men who teach in a variety of subjects. There are 20,247 male instructors throughout all academic levels, and there are 63,878 female teachers, for a combined total of 84,125 male and female teachers.

The percentage of instructors who were Kuwaitis was 73.3 percent, and the percentage of teachers who were not Kuwaitis was 26.7 percent. The sources added that they anticipate the ministry would appoint at least 700 new teachers to address the gap across a range of academic fields for the upcoming academic year, particularly in light of the potential establishment of roughly 16 new schools. For the academic year 2022–2023, the Ministry of Education declared a need for both male and female instructors. For male instructors to work in public schools, they must be university-educated in the subjects of English, French, mathematics, science, chemistry, physics, biology, geology, philosophy, and interior design; for female teachers, it must be English, mathematics, physics, and music.
