Dr Faisal Al-Munawer, Professor of Public Administration and Crisis Management, says there is a crisis of trust between the people and government institutions and uncertainty about the future, reports Al- Rai daily.

He stressed on the need to strengthen this trust between the citizen and institutions, and called on citizens not to be drawn into rumors and to be discipline in dealing with the repeated rumors during the ‘crisis’ and not to pay heed to sectarian strife, as well as the circumvention of political leadership. He was speaking during a symposium which was held under the title ‘The role of the citizen and the government in light of the concept of crisis management’.

Crises
The government, he said, must be determined to correct mistakes and manage the war and economic crises through a national crisis management body, and called for putting in place policies to strengthen national unity to support social cohesion.

He said that crisis management will continue to predict and monitor changes and threats at the internal and external levels that may generate crises, pointing out that the continuous monitoring process is a preventive methodology for managing crises and dealing with them, and that “dangers are one of the reasons that affect the paths of the state and the development of their societies.”

He explained the difference between crisis and conflict, saying, “We live in a volatile region of confl icts and not crises,” and added “crises occur suddenly and may affect the political system and may cause a kind of imbalance.”

He went on to say, “The crisis needs to be addressed, as it threatens the general values and goals, and comes in a limited period of time”, pointing out that if crises are not addressed chronic problems occur, and the cost of dealing with them becomes high.
