Dptmt For Land Port Security Has Presented A Proposal To Establish Duty-free Shops In All Land Borders
General Department for Land Port Security has presented a proposal to establish duty-free shops in all land borders including Nuwaiseeb, Salmi and Abdali border checkpoints, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources.
A study conducted by the department affirmed the need to provide consumer services to travelers at these border checkpoints. The directorate also proposed establishing new border checkpoints equipped with modern security and IT systems.
The sources revealed that the proposal has been referred to the Assistant Undersecretary for Land Border Affairs Major General Mansour Al-Awadhi after which it will be referred to the Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Mahmoud Al-Dousari.
They stressed the seriousness of Ministry of Interior see the light of the project, as it will be the first of its kind in the region and will make Kuwait the center of attraction for travelers through provision of fivestar services.
The sources indicated that the project will also inject the muchneeded financial gains and profits to bolster state budget, adding that it is in line with the directives of the higher authorities to transform Kuwait into a financial hub and touristic center.
They affirmed that the study of the project will be referred to Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah to review it before it is referred to the Cabinet for approval
