Domestic Helper Reduction Plans Discussed By Pam

26 July 2022 Kuwait

The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) and the Commerce Ministry are discussing how to reduce Kuwait's domestic helper population. According to the demographic structure, the plan is to hire the actual number of workers needed to reduce the number of expats.

Kuwait currently has more than 650,000 domestic helpers, although this number declined by 17,000 last year. Residence permits of domestic helpers who have been outside the country for more than six months will continue to be automatically revoked. The possibility of allowing domestic workers to work daily or monthly was also explored by officials.
