Despite Tough Laws, Chaos Seen On Roads
According to reports from the Al-Ra daily, the Traffic Sector has been actively engaged in enforcing traffic regulations, issuing a staggering total of 26,778 traffic violation citations over the past week. This translates to an average of 3,825 citations issued daily. Additionally, the sector dealt with 2,682 incidents and 1,243 accidents during this period, resulting in 3,925 interventions and 263 reported injuries.
These efforts align with the directives of Major General Yousef Al-Khadda, Assistant Undersecretary for the Traffic and Operations Sector at the Interior Ministry, and are closely monitored by Brigadier General Jamal Al-Foudari, Director General of the General Traffic Department.
The week-long campaign prioritized measures aimed at ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and apprehending individuals found to be in violation of traffic laws, particularly reckless motorists. As a result, 188 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded, 32 individuals were detained by the Traffic Police Unit, and 30 individuals wanted by law enforcement were apprehended. Additionally, 63 vehicles linked to criminal activities were seized, with further actions taken such as referrals to the Drugs Control General Department and the Firearm Possession Investigation Department. Furthermore, several juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution as part of these enforcement efforts.
These ongoing campaigns underscore the commitment of security officials to monitor the traffic situation closely and take decisive action against those who flout traffic regulations.
