Customs Shift Employees: Fingerprint Every 6 Hours
Minister of Trade and Industry, Abdullah Al-Joaan, has issued a directive to overhaul the current system for applying departure fingerprints for shift work within the General Administration of Customs. Under the new guidelines, employees will be required to apply their fingerprints every 6 hours, with a total of 3 fingerprints for those working 12-hour shifts.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the Director of Customs has disseminated the updated fingerprinting procedures to all department employees. This decision is slated to come into effect on May 1, 2024. Notably, the directive aims to streamline working hours, ensuring greater accuracy and efficiency while fostering employee accountability. The updated system mandates the application of attendance and departure fingerprints, along with an additional fingerprint midway through the shift.
Furthermore, the decision addresses common challenges faced by employees in adhering to shift schedules. It acknowledges the need for adequate accommodation, particularly for employees working under the 48-hour work/96-hour rest system in remote customs ports such as Salmi, Abdali, Nuwaiseeb, and Khubari Al-Awazem. Similarly, it addresses the requirements of the 24-hour work/48-hour rest system applicable to customs areas in close proximity, including air freight, Sulaibiya, vegetable stock, customs warehouses, and sea ports.
