Customs Lacks Staff, Tech To Track Drug Traces In E-shisha
Smokers of electronic shisha with marijuana and meth drug flavors seem to be outside the scope of monitoring due to the absence of surveillance while accountability is buffered by the concerned authorities.
The General Customs Administration has been unable to inspect narcotic imports which started to enter the country without objection, while the Ministry of Health or the Environment Public Authority (EPA) is not responsible because the issue is not within their authority.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Suleiman Al-Fahad said the ministry had earlier addressed the director general of the General Customs Administration to take preventive measures in relation to the entry of electronic shisha with flavors of marijuana and meth drugs to the country, especially since these items are being ordered through online shopping sites at prices ranging from KD10 to KD80 depending on the quality and type.
The General Customs Administration made a surprising disclosure, saying it has neither sufficient staff nor equipment for the detection of these flavors, pointing out this kind of shisha is allowed because there is no governmental agency in charge of testing them.
