Crackdown On Fake Maids Offices On
In compliance with the directive of Assistant Undersecretary for Residency Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Anwar Al-Barjas, the investigators at the Residency Affairs Investigation General Department continued the campaign to track down bogus domestic labor offices that provide cover for domestic workers involved in absconding and other cases; while giving them jobs for which they are paid daily or monthly, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting a source from the security sector.
The source told the daily that the investigators recently raided five bogus domestic labor offices where they found 19 Asian and African household workers who violated the Residency Law. This is in addition to the arrest of eight people operating these offices and two taxi drivers who transport domestic workers to houses. According to the source, the investigators took action based on information from citizens and expatriates who were deceived by the absconding domestic workers — some of whom are involved in theft cases. The investigators identified the bogus offices and contacted them through secret agents who pretended to be employers planning to hire domestic workers. During investigation, the arrested domestic workers and taxi drivers admitted their crime; detailing their modus operandi while providing information on the location of other erring domestic workers who are renting apartments in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Hassawi, Farwaniya and Hawally.
