Coast Guard Officer To 3 Years Imprisonment For Abusing Authority

The Court of Cassation sentenced a Coast Guard officer to three years imprisonment with hard labor, imposed a fine of KD 14,000 and terminated him from his position over allegation of pilfering two falcons from an Iranian ship during an inspection within Kuwaiti territorial waters.

The Public Prosecution had charged the suspect of pilfering the birds belonging to the plaintiff while inspecting goods on the ship within the Kuwaiti territorial waters, stressing that he abused his position to commit the crime. However, the suspect denied the allegation, claiming that the sailor was the one who offered him the birds with the intention of sale since it was not allowed to import birds into Kuwait from neighboring countries.
