Australia's Governor General To Visit Kuwait On May 1st
The governor-general of Australia Sir Peter Cosgrove will pay and official visit to Kuwait on May 1st (Sunday), upon an official invitation by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Kuwaiti Ambassador to Australia Najib Al-Bader welcomed the upcoming visit of Cosgrove, as it will contribute in boosting and developing bilateral ties in the political, economic and cultural domains.
He will also hold official talks with His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, along with a number of senior state officials, to discuss aspects of mutual bilateral cooperation.
This visit also reflects the deep-rooted ties between Kuwaiti and Australia, and the keenness in enhancing relations between the two states, he said. The Kuwaiti-Australian relations are of economic and commercial nature, as both sides are exerting all possible efforts to bolster bilateral ties that date back to 1974, he added.
Al-Bader expressed his delight over the size of the annual commercial trade between Kuwait and Australia that was valued at USD 700 million in 2015. The Most important Australian exports to Kuwait are related to cars and spare parts industry, frozen meat, dairy products, cattle and wheat, he noted. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti companies and institutions are investing in Australia with a total value of USD 12 billion, he added.
Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) is implementing 18 oil investments project in oil and gas wells in West of Australia, as it will commence production by the end of 2016, he said.
On the other hand, Q8 Aviation will enlarge its share in the fueling operations of aircrafts in Sydney International Airport, he added. A number of investment opportunities are obtainable in Australia taking in consideration the wide capabilities in Australia in the field of tourism, agriculture, education and health, he added.
Australia is considered one of the most important destinations for Kuwaiti tourists, as 5,000 Kuwaitis visited the country this year, the diplomat added. He praised the distinguished levels of cooperation between both nations in the multilateral international work, and in supporting candidacy on membership of international organizations.
Al-Bader endorsed the distinguished role of Australia during the liberation of Kuwait from the Iraqi occupation in 1991 and its participation within the special international forces that encountered the Iraqi military threats in 1998, on the Kuwaiti-Iraqi borders, he said.
Australia played a leading role in maintaining the international peace and security as it ranked second in the size of the participating military forces in the operations in Iraq and Syria, following the United States. Al-Bader applauded the eminent level of academic cooperation between Australian institutions and research centers and Kuwait, as 1,150 Kuwaiti students are enrolled in various universities all over the Australia.
