Al-mousa Visits Subbiya Power Station; Predicts A Better Summer

18 April 2022 Kuwait

Ali Al-Mousa, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, has been reassured by Minister of Public Works about preparations for the upcoming summer season, by saying this year will be better due to tight maintenance operations carried out by the Ministry on all power stations during this period, and that no technical problems will occur, if all goes according to plan.

"We will cross this summer safely, just like every year," he said. Thank God, there are plenty of water and electricity in the country, but sporadic accidents do occur, which are out of our control."

When El-Mousa inspected the Subbiya power station and water distillation plant during his inspection, he said this. Khalifa Al-Farij, the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Engineer Haitham Al-Ali, the chief engineer responsible for operating and maintaining the stations, and other station officials accompanied him.

He broke the Ramadan fast with the station's shift workers during his visit. Thanking the workers for their hard work and commitment to the ministry's electrical and water networks, he praised them for their dedication.

During his remarks to the workers, Al-Mousa said, "Our national workforce is a source of pride for the ministry, and the power stations sector is the backbone of the ministry, securing the state's electricity and water needs." In praising the Kuwaiti workers, Al-Mousa noted, "It is no secret to everyone that these Kuwaitis are unknown soldiers who work day and night over twenty-four hours to ensure that the electricity and water supply are maintained."

As the station's work is similar to that of the Doha station, he emphasized the importance of developing and rehabilitating the human element.

As Al-Mousa explained to the station's employees, he spent most of his time working under the turbines, but God called me to go to another field. The magnitude of the change in the station has astonished me, and this has been made possible with your help. God willing, I will assist you in any way I can, and the real investment isn't in machinery or contracts, but in the youth of Kuwait."

In response, the minister stated that "the Ministry of Labour and the National Assembly's Committees are cooperating to grant all employees their rights and allowances."

Minister Al-Mousa's deputy, Khalifa Al-Farij, praised the visit by Minister Al-Mousa to the station, explaining that all aspects of the ministry are extremely interested in preparing for the summer period.

"The electrical maintenance and water desalination units have been running smoothly, and we have put 70 percent of the preparations for next summer into place. We are continuing maintenance at the various ministry stations, and by the end of May we will have completed most of it."

Fortunately, our engineering and technical cadre enjoy a very high level of work spirit and continue to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. "Minister Al-Mousa visited more than one control unit at the station and was briefed on the progress of work."

"We have two projects that will be completed that will generate 1,150 megawatts, and they complement the work of the station."

In the ECR (electrical control room), Al-Mousa was briefed on the workflow and procedures used to ensure the plants are ready for the summer of 2022.

A detailed explanation was provided by Director Al-Shammari about the mechanism of the electrical control system at the Subbiya station, which has a production capacity of 7100 megawatts and represents 35% of the state's total electricity production. The station also produces 100 million imperial gallons of water daily.

Al-Shimmari discussed the TCR (Thermal Control Room) with the BBC while visiting the station, noting that the station was founded in 1998 and that projects are being updated and developed continuously. Al-Shimmari explained that a tender is being prepared for the station's fourth phase to boost its production capabilities.
