Affordable Goods Are A Priority For Cooperatives
According to Kuwait Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies (KUCCS), it is keen to keep commodity prices in check in order to provide consumers with goods at reasonable prices. Chairman of KUCCS Abdulwahab Al-Fares told KUNA that the union had recently launched a platform where consumers could track prices for different commodities, saying hikes or decreases would be visible to everyone. A cooperative society movement in Kuwait is unique, he said, noting that the union has always supported products produced in Kuwait or exported from Kuwait.
In this regard, he reiterated KUCCS' commitment to countering monopolies and ensuring that prices are fair, affirming that nobody is above the law. According to Mohammad Al-Kanderi, the Al-Rawda and Hawalli Cooperative Society chairman, a serious effort is being made to keep prices reasonable for consumers, adding that the board has taken the necessary steps to ensure quality and availability of goods. According to him, KUCCS has proven to be a major provider of consumer goods in the region.
Asked about the rise in prices of certain commodities, Al-Kanderi explained that sometimes prices rise as a result of global disturbances, such as the COVID-19 pandemic; however, the State of Kuwait ensured consumers had access to their products during crises.
