Kuwait Reaffirms Support For Peaceful Nuclear Energy
Counselor Abdulaziz Al-Dakhil from the Kuwaiti Embassy in China highlighted Kuwait’s compliance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and its vision of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.
Cooperation with the IAEA and National Projects
Kuwait maintains strong ties with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), aiming to use nuclear energy in fields that benefit socio-economic growth. Kuwait has submitted four national projects focused on:
- Genetically modified crops
- Groundwater resource management
- Cancer treatment using radiation technologies
- Combating environmental and radioactive pollution
Kuwait’s Exploration of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
Kuwait is collaborating with the IAEA to explore the use of nuclear applications in the oil sector, particularly the use of small modular reactors (SMRs) for electricity generation.
KISR Feasibility Studies
The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), in partnership with the IAEA, is conducting detailed studies to assess the feasibility of using nuclear energy for:
