Csc Insists On Implementing The Kuwaitization Policy In Municipality

In spite of the remarkable decline in the number of expatriate employees at Kuwait Municipality especially in the engineering sectors, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) insisted on implementing the replacement and Kuwaitization policy in these professions as part of the plan for fiscal 2019/2020, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The Municipality requested for termination of 28 engineers out of 179, while the CSC pointed out in a letter to the director general of the Municipality that the number of employees covered by the policy for the next fiscal year is 72 out of 536 expatriate employees who are assigned in various sectors of the Municipality.

It is worth mentioning that the total number of employees in the Municipality according to the CSC is 5,522 – 4,986 Kuwaitis and 536 non-Kuwaitis. Meanwhile, officials from the Ministry of Electricity and Water said the reason for the delay in the supply of electricity to the residents of Al-Funaitees is due to the failure of the contractor to provide labor and required materials, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.

The sources pointed out that the ministry will cancel the contract and punish the contractor with fines and other penalties according to the terms of the contract and the law of tenders.

The sources pointed out, the delay was also due to the contractor’s inability to pay the salaries of labors on time which led to the workers going on strike, and delay the work. Sources also pointed out that the ministry has addressed the Public Authority for Manpower to approve the payment of salaries of the workers directly by the ministry and to be deducted from the money deserved for the contractor.

In a related context, the Ministry of Electricity and Water is seeking to float a tender for the construction of a reverse seawater desalination unit for Doha Desalination Plant in the second quarter of 2019. The sources pointed out the first phase of the project reached a capacity of 60 million imperial gallons per day and it took about a year and a half to be accomplished, as the relevant contract was signed on May 30, 2016.
