‘2,276 Issues Worth $2.7b Seen’
The State Audit Bureau (SAB) said on Monday that it dealt with 2,276 issues by expressing its opinion on them during the period between April 1 and December 31 last year, at a value of 2.7 billion dinars (about 8.9 billion US dollars).
A member of the team preparing the annual report for the prior control and technical support sector at the Diwan, Yasmin Al-Wasmi, explained in a press release that about 75% of the total number of issues during this period was the topics presented by ministries and government departments worth 2.06 billion dinars (about 6.8 billion dollars). Al-Wasmi added that 15 percent of the topics presented were from entities with attached budgets worth 262 million dinars (about $866 million), while 10 percent of them were from entities with independent budgets worth 395 million dinars (about 1.3 billion dollars). She stated that the prior supervision of some of the topics presented during the aforementioned period of the current fiscal year resulted in direct savings to the state’s public treasury at a value of 6.4 million dinars (about 21 million dollars).
She indicated that the Bureau issued its opinion not to approve 82 topics during the mentioned period, at a value of 115 million dinars (about 380 million dollars), for several reasons, including the non-conformity of the offers of the companies to be contracted with the requirements of the party contained in the offering documents or contracting by direct order or by practice. She stated that the Bureau returned the papers of 679 subjects during the aforementioned period, representing 30 percent of the total number of subjects presented for the failure of the authorities to provide the Bureau with papers and documents for the presented subjects and related documents, data and clarifications.
