The Municipal Council’s Environmental Affairs Committee, under the leadership of Alia Al Farsi, wrapped up its second workshop today, focusing on the pressing environmental issues facing Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. The workshop, titled "Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Environmental System: Community Participation Between Situation Assessment and Solutions", aimed at finding solutions to improve the area's environmental conditions through community engagement and strategic measures.

Key Recommendations to Address Environmental Challenges

During the workshop, the committee issued eight crucial strategic recommendations designed to tackle the deteriorating environmental conditions in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. These recommendations aim to activate existing laws and regulations and improve the accessibility of regulatory authorities to monitor violations effectively.

Pollution Control and Disease Prevention

One of the primary concerns raised by the committee was the need for immediate action to address the levels of air and water pollution in the area. This includes taking steps to measure pollution levels regularly and implement control measures to prevent the spread of diseases that are exacerbated by the deteriorating environment.

Addressing Rat and Stray Dog Populations

The committee also emphasized the urgent need to manage the growing populations of rats and stray dogs in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. These pests pose significant public health risks, and controlling their numbers is essential to improving the overall sanitary conditions of the area.

Infrastructure Improvements to Combat Environmental Decline

Among the recommendations was a call for significant repairs to the region’s sewage, drainage, and rainwater systems, which have deteriorated over time and are contributing to the ongoing environmental challenges. Fixing these systems is essential for preventing further contamination and improving water quality.

Reducing Urban Congestion and Road Repair Needs

The committee also highlighted the need to address population congestion, which is exacerbating environmental stress in the area. Additionally, the repair of deep potholes that are impeding traffic and access for essential services was considered crucial for improving mobility and ensuring that regulatory authorities can easily access the area.

Infrastructure Development for Regulatory Access

To enhance the effectiveness of environmental regulations, the committee stressed the importance of developing infrastructure that allows regulatory authorities and service providers to access the area with their vehicles, machinery, and equipment. This would enable them to implement necessary regulations and carry out inspections efficiently.

Conclusion: A Collective Effort Towards a Sustainable Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh

The committee’s recommendations underscore the urgent need for coordinated efforts between the community, regulatory authorities, and service providers to improve the environmental and health conditions of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. By addressing pollution, pests, infrastructure issues, and urban congestion, the area can begin to recover from the environmental degradation it faces.
