Six-Storey Building Collapses During Demolition In Jabriya
Building Collapse in Jabriya During Demolition: Search Underway
A dramatic incident unfolded in Jabriya today as a six-storey building collapsed during its demolition. The Kuwait Fire Service Directorate responded swiftly, with a search operation currently underway to locate anyone who might be trapped in the debris.
Emergency Response and Search Operation
Upon receiving the report, firefighting teams rushed to the scene, with Major General Khaled Abdullah, the acting head of the fire force, overseeing the operation. Security and ambulance personnel are collaborating with firefighters, and sniffer dogs are being deployed to detect any individuals trapped under the rubble.
Investigation and Legal Action
Instructions have been issued to pursue legal action against those deemed responsible for the negligence leading to the collapse. Eng. Hamoud Al-Mutairi, Director of the Hawalli Governorate Municipality Branch, confirmed that the municipality had granted demolition permits for the site, which housed four buildings. The collapse, during work by a licensed contractor, impacted the adjacent building and spilled debris onto the street.
Al-Mutairi emphasized that the contracting company and engineering office will not be absolved of responsibility. Possible penalties include license revocation or changes in their classification. Additionally, some of the rubble landed on a car parked near the demolition site.
Conclusion
The collapse of the six-storey building in Jabriya highlights critical issues in demolition practices and safety measures. The ongoing search and investigation aim to uncover the full extent of the incident and ensure accountability for those responsible.
