Saudi Arabia And Kuwait Join Forces To Study Railway Feasibility

16 November 2023 Kuwait

SYSRTA and the Ministry of Public Works have agreed to conduct a comprehensive study to assess the financial, economic, and technical feasibility of a railway connection between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Through this collaborative effort, a sustainable and efficient railway link will be established, enhancing connectivity for safe transportation between the two countries. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works, Eid Al-Rashidi, emphasized the importance of this agreement, reflective of the shared vision of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad and Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince.

As part of the project, social ties will be strengthened and economic integration will be achieved. Kuwait and Riyadh are approximately 650 kilometers apart, so the study aims to reduce travel time to two hours through efficient rail connectivity. Al-Rashidi commended the swift efforts of both parties, culminating in the agreement within a short period of nine months.

A six-month completion timeline for the agreement indicates its priority within government programs overseen by the Ministry of Public Works and closely monitored by His Highness the Prime Minister.
